£4,200 Awarded to Supermarket Assistant After Fall Injures His Back

Mr Marcin Wiatr, an online teacher and former supermarket general assistant has been awarded £4,200 after falling and injuring his back whilst at work.

On the day of his accident, Mr Wiatr was working late at a supermarket, he was pulling cages stocked with goods out of the warehouse and towards the shop floor.

The cages were extremely heavy and Mr Wiatr was having to apply excessive force to move them.

The floor of the corridor between the warehouse and shop floor inclines like a ramp, so Mr Wiatr was forced to pull the cage uphill. Whilst pulling the cage up the ramp, Mr Wiatr felt a sudden sharp pain in his spine which took his breath away and caused him to fall to the floor. Upon seeing him fall, a colleague helped Mr Wiatr to an office and called a taxi for him, which transported him to Wythenshawe Hospital.

As a result of his accident, Mr Wiatr took 5 weeks off work and also suffered nightmares for a four month period due to problems with work. Several months after his accident, Mr Wiatr left his job at the supermarket and started working as a teacher of online training.

Mr Wiatr’s accident could have easily been avoided if he had been given the correct training when he started work. As a result of the hard work by Kate Sanderson, Assistant Solicitor at Express Solicitors, Mr Wiatr received £4,200 in compensation for his injuries.
