DePuy Recalls Replacement Hip Systems

DePuy Orthopaedics a leading manufacturer of replacement joints have recently reported that 1 in 8 patients who had their hip systems implanted required second surgeries.  Subsequently DePuy  have recalled their ASR XL Acetabular Hip System and DePuy ASR Hip Resurfacing System both of which have been in use in UK hospitals since July 2003.

Patients who have had a hip surgery since July 2003 are encouraged to contact their surgeon or hospital to find out what brand of implant was used.  If you have an ASR hip implant it is recommended by DePuy that you have a followup appointment with your surgeon annually to ensure the implant is correctly functioning and well maintained.
