While Express Solicitors is a national Personal Injury Law firm we do still enjoy a large client base from our local Greater Manchester area. A healthy proportion of these are the walking wounded who pop in to our Northenden HQ as well as the more seriously injured who require a representative to visit them either at hospital or at home.
As a specialist in Employer’s Liability law I am all too familiar with serious injuries caused by accidents at work. By virtue of the work they undertake individuals working in the building trade are in a highrisk category. So I was particularly pleased to learn that the Health and Safety Executive has launched an initiative in Manchester to improve safety in the industry.
Programme Of Aimed At Reducing Death And Injury
Aimed at reducing death injury and ill health an intensive inspection programme will be introduced. Repair and refurbishment work is the specific area of the industry which will be targeted during the monthlong drive with HSE looking at highrisk activity such as working at height and dealing with dangerous materials like asbestos.
Falls from height are still the most common cause of death and serious injury in this industry with five incidents reported to HSE each day. Remarkable given that the phenomenon of gravity and the fragility of the human body is nothing new! In many cases small changes in working practices would be crucial in preventing these types of accidents.
HSE Action Will Hopefully Raise Safety Standards
The HSE intends to take enforcement action against many businesses as a result of the increases in inspections. Here’s hoping the threat of action will encourage site managers to protect their workers as much as possible.
As well as HSE action building firms may be subject to a claim for personal injury compensation should an employee or contractor be injured through no fault of their own. If you have been injured during the course of your employment please contact us today to discuss your claim free of charge with a specialist Employer’s Liability Solicitor.
