Olympian James Cracknell recently put his weight behind a campaign to encourage cyclists to wear helmets. The multiple gold medal winning rower now retired sustained a brain injury last year when hit by a passing lorry while cycling across USA in an endurance race.
He was hit from behind at 70mph by the truck’s wing mirror and was knocked from his bike. After a period in intensive care he woke up albeit it with a radically altered personality due to the damage to his brain. He is expected to make a full recovery however and is already back on his bike.
It would have been a tragically different story had he not been wearing a helmet though which is why on the anniversary of his accident James appears in a hard hitting video imploring other cyclists to make use of the most simple easily available and surely most vital piece of equipment around.
The video was produced in conjunction with Headway the brain injury association of which Express Solicitors is an affiliate. The message is simple: When you’re out cycling your use head. Use your helmet.
