Work Placements

Work Experience (1 week placement)

How many places are available?

Express Solicitors are offering the opportunity for 1 weeks’ work experience to 2 students per year, whereby we’ll aiming to place both students during the Autumn/Winter period.

Preferably, we’d like to place an individual during the following periods of each year; however we will attempt to be as flexible as possible.

  1. One week during the university autumn reading week
  2. One week after the completion of the semester in December

What does the placement involve?

The placement involves a rotation around all of our specialist departments and New Client Team, offering an opportunity of spending 2 hours with five trainee solicitors in each department and 6–10 hours with our NCT Litigation Assistants. The week aims to help further your understanding of what’s undertaken by our fee earners on a day-to-day basis along with offering a chance to discuss and apply your legal knowledge to live cases.

We always endeavour to give each work experience applicant the opportunity to conduct some paralegal work and the chance to attend court.

When should you apply?

Applications are open between 1st January and 31st August.

How should you apply?

Simply send a covering letter & CV to  titled ‘Work Experience’.

After the application deadline, all CVs will be reviewed with those shortlisted required to undertake a short telephone interview, with successful applicants to be notified by 31st October at the latest as to whether they were successful or not.

MMU Tort Prize

Express Solicitors were delighted to award Beth Schofield, a first year LLB student, a week’s work placement, plus £100 after achieving one of the highest marks in Manchester Metropolitan University LLB’s Tort prize. Express sponsors this prize annually and it is awarded to the student who receives the best overall mark in their LLB Tort Exam.

During her placement at Express Solicitors, Beth had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the world of personal injury law spending time in a variety of different departments across the firm. Beth spent time with members of the new client team, dealing with initial attendances and also shadowed fee earners in the Costs, Employer’s Liability, Occupier’s & Public Liability, and RTA departments. As well as this Beth also gained experience working alongside our Medical Agency File Handlers with sister company Ontime Reports Ltd.

The application process for our next Easter Vacation scheme will open January 2019, further details will follow nearer to this date and applications will be made via the Express website.
