Work Experience (1 week placement)
How many places are available?
Express Solicitors are offering the opportunity for 1 weeks’ work experience to 2 students per year, whereby we’ll aiming to place both students during the Autumn/Winter period.
Preferably, we’d like to place an individual during the following periods of each year; however we will attempt to be as flexible as possible.
- One week during the university autumn reading week
- One week after the completion of the semester in December
What does the placement involve?
The placement involves a rotation around all of our specialist departments and New Client Team, offering an opportunity of spending 2 hours with five trainee solicitors in each department and 6–10 hours with our NCT Litigation Assistants. The week aims to help further your understanding of what’s undertaken by our fee earners on a day-to-day basis along with offering a chance to discuss and apply your legal knowledge to live cases.
We always endeavour to give each work experience applicant the opportunity to conduct some paralegal work and the chance to attend court.
When should you apply?
Applications are open between 1st January and 31st August.
How should you apply?
Simply send a covering letter & CV to firstname.lastname@example.org titled ‘Work Experience’.
After the application deadline, all CVs will be reviewed with those shortlisted required to undertake a short telephone interview, with successful applicants to be notified by 31st October at the latest as to whether they were successful or not.
Easter Vacation Scheme
Each year, Express Solicitors are delighted to provide law students with the opportunity to gain work experience through our Easter Vacation Scheme. The scheme is open to all law students who are either in their final year of their LLB, or currently studying their GDL or LPC. They are invited to apply, explaining why they are interested in working within a Personal Injury firm, before a shortlist of candidates are invited for an interview and technical test.
We are delighted to announce this year’s winners were Rebecca Bernard and Caroline Rigby, pictured from left to right with Recruitment Officer, Fiona Laird.
During their work experience, they were able to expand their knowledge of the different areas of personal injury, as well as gain some practical experience. Sitting in the various departments they were given a variety of tasks including: research, completing questionnaires, drafting case summaries and listening in on conference calls.
Both Rebecca and Caroline remarked upon how friendly and supportive everyone in the firm has been and how much they enjoyed their experience.
When asked for comments Rebecca commented, “I have found the experience insightful and encouraging within the warming atmosphere of Express Solicitors.” Caroline too praised the week’s experience claiming, “It has honestly been my favourite vacation scheme I’ve ever completed.”
The application process for next year’s Easter Vacation scheme will open early 2018, further details will follow nearer to this date and applications will be made via the Express website.
