The final round of the FIA European Rally Championship took place in Liepaja in Latvia over the weekend. The junior U27 category had been hotly contested over the year and going into this the final round it was winner takes all with four young drivers with a chance of taking the win and the overall championship.
The rally started with fellow Team opel stablemate Jai Huttunen leading after the first few stages in a rain soaked and sometimes waterlogged stages making the driving very tricky. At the end of the first day Chris was trailing Huttunen by 27 seconds but had stayed out of trouble and had got the car set up perfectly to push the following day. Sunday saw yet more rain and very slippery conditions for all the competitors. Mid way through the first loop of stages with Chris Ingram setting fastest times, Huttunen made a mistake and went off the road for 30 seconds. The following stage Huttunen suffered with a double puncture trying to cut too many corners to get back the lead. Chris then controlled the rest of the rally from the front winning by 36 seconds from Phillip Mares with Huttunen a further 11 seconds behind Mares.
This has been a dream of mine for 4 years to win this Championship I just want to thank all my sponsors who have believed in me for so long. Said a very emotional Chris at the end of the final stage.
Express Solicitors have sponsored Chris for the past two seasons and we have seen him grow and mature as a driver. We are thrilled that he has won and hope that this is the first of many championship wins in his career
