Match report – 11/10/2016 Express v DLA Piper

Following last week’s match being forfeited by GTD (meaning an automatic win for the Express girls) last night saw team Express play against DLA Piper who were currently 4th in the league.

Express put forward a slightly changed team with Helen, Jaleela and Charley (Vice Captain) in defence, Fiona as Centre, Kimberley, Ellie and Laura in attack. Our team was at full strength with 2 substitutes Kirsty (captain) and Lizzy on the side lines cheering in support.

It was an Express Centre pass which got the game underway. For every goal Express scored DLA Piper secured an equaliser and we were level pegging at 3-3 after 5 minutes. Both teams were quick at passing the ball around. The match then picked up its pace with some long passes down court from Fiona to Kimberley, Ellie and Laura, and Express managed to secure two further goals giving a slight lead over their opponents. Express continued to move the ball around quickly and Ellie and Laura scorning at every opportunity. DLA Piper had some height advantage in their own shooters however Helen and Jaleela were able to keep their scoring at bay with some brilliant interceptions. The first half ended with Express 10-7 up.img_4034

At half time the team substitutions were made and Lizzy replaced Kimberley as WA and Kirsty replaced Jaleela as GD. Express were determined to keep their lead and their winning streak.

The second half commenced with a centre pass from DLA, this was quickly intercepted and our attack was underway with Fiona and Lizzy pushing the ball up the court to Ellie and Laura. Our quick passing and footwork secured 3 quick goals and our lead increased to 13-7.  The girls remained positive and determined to keep this lead. A few DLA goals sneaked passed our Defence bringing DLA back in the game. Kirsty, noticing a height disadvantage, decided to substitute herself for Jaleela after 10 minutes into the second half to ensure our Defence remained strong. The Express girls picked up pace and moved further into the lead.

The final score was 25-16 to Express.

Well done again ladies – and congratulations to Ellie who was umpire’s choice for player of the match!
