Express Solicitors are delighted to have awarded Lynsey Handley, a first year LLB student, a week’s work placement, plus £100 after achieving one of the highest marks in Manchester Metropolitan University LLB’s Tort prize. Express sponsors this prize annually and it is awarded to the student who receives the best overall mark in their LLB Tort Exam. This year there were five joint contenders and all were invited to take part in a telephone interview with HR Officer, Emily Wattis before Lynsey was successfully announced the lucky winner.
During her placement at Express Solicitors, Lynsey had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the world of personal injury law spending time in a variety of different departments across the firm. Lynsey spent time with members of the new client team, dealing with initial attendances and also shadowed fee earners in the Costs, Employer’s Liability, Occupier’s & Public Liability, and RTA departments.

When asked what she was able to take away from her experience placement at Express Solicitors, Lynsey commented: “The best thing was the variety offered. All the staff had put thought into the tasks set for me”
“I really enjoyed learning about the Cost Department and I would like to consider working in this area. Prior to the placement I had not considered a career in Costs or PI, however this area of the law is now certainly of great interest to me”
HR Officer, Emily Wattis commented, “It is always great to see a student so enthusiastic about getting involved. Lynsey took every opportunity to make the most of this experience and we hope she has gained a great deal from the placement.
