Katie Barnes is an Assistant Solicitor in the Road Traffic Accident department at Express Solicitors, having initially joined the firm’s New Client Team in April 2015.

When asked what she enjoys most about her role at Express Solicitors, Katie answered: “I have learnt so many different things since starting in the RTA team; no task or case is ever the same. I have learnt how to; take witness statements, instruct counsel, issue proceedings, take specials, review medical reports, instruct experts, and put a claim on to the portal.  The training and development opportunities at Express Solicitors are excellent and I feel as though I’m always developing as a litigator.”

Katie prides herself on her organisational skills and whilst working at Express Solicitors she has learnt how to prioritise well. She always makes sure the most urgent task is dealt with first and in a precise manner. Katie is a good listener and pays attention to detail with all aspects of a claim, she explains: “I believe these skills help me to find the information that is needed or required in a case. I also think having such communication skills is important for the client, whether dealing with their queries or complaints; it allows me to resolve many situations.”

Before joining Express Solicitors, Katie gained a Law degree from Sheffield Hallam University and has also completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law. She is proud to be the first person in her family to go to university.  Katie developed excellent customer service skills, having worked in the George clothing department of ASDA supermarkets for 7 years whilst completing her studies.
