Katie Westaway is a Trainee Solicitor in the Road Traffic Accidents department, having joined Express Solicitors New Client Team in July 2016. Katie specialises in Road Traffic Accidents, specifically within the Ministry of Justice portal, this is a streamlined system to assist in the progression and settlement of cases of a value under £25,000.

When asked what she likes best about her role, Katie commented, “No matter where you work it is the people that make or break a business. I have the most supportive colleagues who are always happy to discuss a difficult point.

I also love the variety that my role can entail, each day is different, but I can use my core skills to tackle anything and work to achieve the best results for my clients. There is nothing better than telephoning a client to advise that we have achieved a successful result for them. So often clients just want to know that someone cares about what happened to them; to be able to be that person is great.”

“I have a patient and calm nature which allows clients to open up about their injuries and the effects of the accident. This means that I can talk clients through a confusing and difficult time within their life and try and take as much stress away from them. Meaning they can focus on their recovery and start rebuilding their lives after the trauma. I enjoy building a professional relationship with clients and achieving excellent results for them. So often little details can be missed if the time is not taken to ask clients in detail about the effects. I take the time to speak with all my clients about all aspects of their case, so I can really understand the effects.”

Katie is also a Treasurer of the University of West London Law Society and was also a winner of a mooting competition at university. Katie commented, “I thoroughly enjoyed partaking in all extracurricular events and putting my knowledge to the test at university.”

Katie currently lives in Didsbury in Manchester. In her spare time Katie enjoys swimming, this allows her time to relax and clear her mind after a busy day. Following mental health awareness week, Katie says she has noticed the positive difference this makes to her mental health and the benefits she can reap from an activity she enjoys.

Katie also enjoys reading which helps her to relax, she commented “I can become lost in an imaginary world and immerse myself in the characters’ lives. Although this is causing me to run out of book shelf space!”

Katie also went on to say “When I return to my childhood home in Devon, sadly not as often as I would like, I also enjoy horse riding, namely Comet, who has been a member of our family for 6 years, along with Rummy who I trained myself after we rescued him from the hills of Dartmoor. As I am now settled in Manchester after moving here 18 months ago, I am now going to look into local riding clubs in order that I can spend time relaxing with horses and getting fresh air.”
