Katryn Mercer is a Solicitor Advocate in the Occupiers and Public Liability department at Express Solicitors, having initially joined the firms New Client Team in November 2017 before being promoted as a Litigation Assistant in February 2018 then starting her training contract in March 2018.
Katryn works on a variety of cases along with one of the Partners of the firm Daniel Slade, who handles some of the most complex cases including, dog bite claims, holiday cases, road traffic accident, accidents involving horse and claims for cyclists and with Katryn being a keen cyclist herself, she says this makes her more aware of her own safety and visibility on the road.
When asked what she likes best about her role, Katryn commented “Working with people who are really in need of help. Many of our clients have severe life-changing injuries and they are often in desperate situations. I like the fact that we are helping them to find a way through what can be a very distressing and stressful time”
“I enjoy talking with clients and with the other people involved in the case, the experts and the barristers. We have some really unusual cases, where I get to learn about all sorts of different occupations from being a farrier, to moving vegetables in a warehouse, through to working as an exotic dancer.”
“It is important to remember that every client is a unique individual with their own experiences, personalities and levels of understanding. The litigation process can be confusing and intimating for those unfamiliar with it, and I always try to bear this in mind every time I make or answer a telephone call or draft a letter. I try to make sure that clients fully understand what is happening with their claims, what the next stage is going to be, and what needs to be done to get there.”
Before joining Express Solicitors Katryn worked as a Project manager prior to deciding to retrain in Law. Katryn also completed her GDL and LPC in 18 months with BPP, graduating in 2017.
