Lucia Filidoro is a Trainee Solicitor in the Road Traffic Accident (RTA) department at Express solicitors, having initially joined the firms New Client team in November 2015 before being promoted to the RTA department in February 2017.
Lucia works on a variety of Road Traffic Accident claims against the Motor Insurers bureau (MIB), this a government body set up to compensate claimants who have been involved with an uninsured or untraceable driver. When asked what she likes best about her role, Lucia commented, “I like the variety of work in RTA. Some people may assume you just deal with rear end shunts but actually, every day is different. I started in the New Client Team dealing with the firm’s new enquiries, I then became a Portal Submission Fee Earner. I was very fortunate to then be able to move into a Litigation Assistant role for Anna Heeley a Partner in RTA. In the time I have been in the RTA department I have learnt a variety of skills that enable me to be a competent lawyer. I really value all the knowledge and progression opportunities I have been given at Express.”
“I genuinely care about the clients and will always try to develop a good rapport, this is really important as for many people bringing a claim can be daunting. I make sure to explain things as clearly and succinctly as possible and always try to manage a client’s expectations especially in respect of MIB claims as these can take longer than standard RTA claims.”
Lucia studied at Northumbria University where she spent 4 years completing her LLB, LLM and BPTC. Lucia commented “I particularly liked the module I did at the Personal Support Unit at Newcastle Combined Court, helping people complete court forms and talking them through the court process.” Lucia is currently starting at the University of Law to complete her LPC in order to qualify under the Solicitor professional qualification route.
