Maryam Kayani is an Assistant Solicitor in the Road Traffic Accident department at Express Solicitors, having joined the firm in September 2018.
When asked what she likes best about her role, Maryam commented “Sometimes the road to a settlement can be long but once a settlement has been agreed upon and the client is awarded a figure for the pain and suffering they have endured it is always satisfying.
I have worked in RTA for approximately 13 years. Ultimately this is a job helping people who, without a lawyers help, may struggle to deal with their cases which can often be quite complex depending on the severity of their injuries.
Nobody is the best as there is always something to learn from colleagues and that is the beauty of this job – you are always learning and growing as a solicitor and as a person.
I pride myself in my empathetic approach to my clients and also understanding that they are usually not lawyers themselves. Sometimes lawyers can forget that their clients are not lawyers and therefore explaining the process without using legal jargon is important. I like to build a rapport with my clients so they feel both comfortable and confident in my ability to obtain the best conclusion for them.”
“My father is a solicitor, so I followed in his footsteps. I am also qualified to teach English as a foreign language which gave me another skill I can utilise as a solicitor particularly explaining legal terminology to my clients.”
