Muneeb Karolia is a Trainee Costs Lawyer at Express Solicitors, having joined the firm in February 2015. Muneeb’s role at Express Solicitors focuses on the preparation and drafting of formal red line bills of costs for assessment in personal injury and clinical negligence matters. Muneeb also assists Sarah Fowden in the preparation and drafting of costs budgets in multi-track personal injury and clinical negligence cases.

When asked what he enjoys most about his role, Muneeb commented: “I am passionate about costs and driven by a desire to be the very best at what I do, which means that I am always looking for ways to progress and develop in my role as a costs draftsperson. I really enjoy the technical aspect of the job because I want to be constantly pushed and intellectually challenged in my work. In addition, I believe that I possess many of the attributes that are required to excel at what I do. For example, I have a meticulous eye for detail and an excellent memory, which means that I adopt an analytical (almost forensic) approach when tasked with preparing and drafting a bill of costs for assessment.”

Muneeb has extensive experience of costs proceedings in both publicly funded and between-the-parties matters, having gained over 6 years’ experience in costs prior to joining Express Solicitors. Muneeb’s specific areas of expertise are preparing/drafting high-quality bills of costs for assessment, negotiating settlement of costs on behalf of the receiving party, and preparing/drafting Replies to Points of Dispute. Muneeb also possesses a solid working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and the associated Practice Directions, and has a sound understanding of costs law in general.

Muneeb has completed a Law with Chemistry degree at Keele University and is hoping to qualify as a Costs Lawyer whilst working at Express Solicitors. Muneeb has been accepted on to and is currently studying the ACL Training Course to become a Costs Lawyer.

Muneeb is an avid film fan with a broad interest in a wide range of films. He goes to the cinema regularly and has built up an extensive DVD and Blu-ray collection.

Muneeb enjoys keeping fit regularly by participating in a high intensity martial arts based cardiovascular group fitness class as well as engaging in boxing and mixed martial arts. In 2012, Muneeb took part in the BUPA Great Manchester 10k run to raise money for the Stroke Association.

Muneeb also enjoys listening to music, reading, socialising with friends and family, and playing chess.

Muneeb’s favourite quote comes from Bruce Lee: “Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.”
