£200,000 for pub landlady
Thanks to partner Sharon Denby and assistant Claire Carlo at Express Solicitors, Tracy O’Donnell from Stechford, Birmingham, received £200,000 in damages after she lost two toes in an accident that wasn’t her fault.
Licensee Tracy made a claim against gas supplier, BOC, when she took delivery of gas bottles and a full cylinder fell onto her right foot, from a height, when its handle snapped off. Her little toe was cut off immediately and her fourth toe was crushed and left hanging. It later had to be amputated.
“This was a very distressing accident but everyone at Express Solicitors got me through it with their fantastic emotional support as well as their legal advice. The accident turned my life upside down, but Express Solicitors helped me turn it around again,” said Tracy.
Tracy ran the pub with husband Patrick when the accident happened in September 2009. The recession had already hit business and the couple was splitting shifts to save on staffing costs. Immobile and in excruciating pain, Tracy was unable to work for three months due to her injuries. Luckily, her friends and family rallied around to help out with the running of the pub and household chores.
Sleep was also problematic and Tracy would have nightmares about the accident. She continues: “I would wake with a start in bed and that jumping would cause more pain, it was a horrible cycle to be in. I ended up with depression and having panic attacks, so Express Solicitors organised for me to receive cognitive behavioural therapy, which really helped me come to terms with my injuries.
“To Sharon and Claire, my case was more than a job and my welfare was their main concern. The whole experience without them would have been unbearable, but they were there for me emotionally and I always knew I could call them if I needed someone to talk to.
“Whenever I contacted the firm I was always put through to somebody that could help. Everybody was polite and I really couldn’t have asked for a better service. I felt like I knew the team personally and in traumatic times it meant everything to me.
“I was also delighted with the compensation I received for my injuries, it has been invested wisely. If I ever need to use a personal injury law firm again it would be Express Solicitors all the way – I couldn’t fault them.”
