Transport data mapping extraordinaires ITO World have produced a map showing virtually every fatality and injury that has occurred on a British road between 2000 and 2010. Incredibly detailed the map differentiates between accidents that caused a fatality serious injury and slight injury as well providing details of the mode of transport involved.
For fatalities a shocking 32995 deaths in the ten year period information relating to the year of death victim’s gender and age are included.
The data that ITO World used to create the map had been available for some time through the Economic and Social Data Service. Known as Stats 19 it is forensically detailed yet has remained little known.
This could be due to the sheer size of the dataset so credit must go to the statos at ITO World for bringing the numbers to life with their colourful map. Zooming in on your local area or a road which you travel on as part of your daily commute and viewing the serious injuries and fatalities that have occurred can really bring home the dangers present on our roads
The map was published ahead of the World Day Of Remembrance for road traffic victims which took place on Sunday. As well as commemorating those who have lost their lives in road traffic accidents there was also a positive emphasis with a goal of saving five million lives during their Decade of Action for Road Safety 20112020.
