Matthew Sudbury is a Trainee Solicitor in the Occupiers and Public Liability department at Express Solicitors, having initially joined the firms New Client Team in May 2017.
When asked what he likes best about his role, Matthew commented, “A lot of our clients have come to us having never instructed solicitors before and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to be the first to guide them through the legal process. I especially enjoy helping to build our clients’ confidence in the legal process and in the strength of their own claim.”
Matthew specialises in the Occupiers Liability department and deals with a range of claims, from slips and trips to defective products. Matthew added, “I also specialise in making claims against the insurers of companies who have become insolvent and in assisting the personal representatives of estate in bringing claims on behalf of their loved ones.”
Matthew is always willing to go the extra mile, to make our clients feel completely comfortable with the legal process. Matthew always ensures he takes his time explaining certain aspects of the claim which they are unsure about so that they understand their options and are able to give their instructions on the claim with confidence.
Matthew’s highest achievement to date is on a case where he persuaded the Financial Services Compensation scheme (FSCS) to part with £30,000 in a claim where both the defendant company and their foreign insurers had become insolvent. The FSCS had initially refused to pay any compensation at all, but once they did agree Matthew was successful in negotiating a higher settlement than the original offer.
Before joining Express Solicitors, Matthew previously lived in the Netherlands, where he worked at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. Matthew also won the award for best dissertation in his final year of his law degree.
