More about Brian Higgs
Brian Higgs is a Partner at Express Solicitors and jointly heads up the volume claims department. Prior to joining Express, Brian was a Partner and joint owner of Liverpool-based HNK Solicitors. HNK specialised in civil actions against the police, group action cybercrime and data breach cases, as well as criminal injury compensation claims. Express Solicitors acquired HNK in April 2025 and he joined Express as a Partner as part of the deal.
Brian started his legal career in 2010 working for a Liverpool-based firm and training in criminal injury compensation claims, specifically sexual abuse cases. As a trainee, he was successful in obtaining the firm’s highest settlement for an abuse case of over £300,000. He took this case to an appeal after the initial settlement offer was £22,000.
He qualified as a solicitor in 2013 at the age of 23 and is known to be one of the youngest people to qualify as a solicitor. He continued this trend and at the age of 25, became one of the youngest partners in the country at HNK.
Brian has experience across a range of civil litigation areas including catastrophic injuries and fatal accident claims. He also has experience dealing with the Maritime Accident Investigation Branch, when he successfully represented passengers injured onboard a boat which sank in Liverpool’s Albert Dock in 2013.
Brian was also the training principle at HNK, being responsible for the training and development of trainee solicitors as well as university and LPC graduates. He was also the Compliance Officer for Legal Practice whilst at HNK and was successful in obtaining and renewing the firm’s Lexcel accreditation for many years.
Since 2018, Brian has specialised in the complex area of group action cases, mainly in the area of cybercrime and data breach. He represented over 250 claimants in the High Court as part of the British Airways data breach group litigation. This case is one of only a few group litigation orders granted in recent years and is the highest group action settlement in a data breach case in England and Wales, following a settlement of £18.5million in 2021.
Brian has been successful in other group action data breach cases against international corporations such as Ticketmaster, together with actions against Watford Community Housing Trust and a medical research facility.
At present, he is representing over 10,000 claimants in various group action cases against EasyJet, the Ministry of Justice, Arnold Clark and Capita Plc.
Outside of work, Brian spends the majority of his time with his wife, young son and their French Bulldog, Frank. He is a season ticket holder at Liverpool FC and is a keen fitness enthusiast, competing in Hyrox events across the country and reluctantly completed a half-marathon against his better judgement.
