Cyclist Alwyn Hughes-Jones was placed in a medically induced coma after suffering ‘catastrophic’ injuries when he was overtaken by a tractor.
Alwyn, 67, needed an inter cranial bolt inserted through his skull to monitor his brain. He also suffered a fractured shoulder, broken ribs, collarbone and arm in the crash.
He said: “I have lost all my independence and memory and can no longer do my hobby of cycling which I loved. My retirement that I had looked forward to for so long has been ruined.
“This has had a massive impact on not just me, but my wife Anne and my entire family. Our life has been put on hold.”
Two years on Alwyn has no memory of the crash and struggles to walk due to his brain injury and loss of balance and can no longer drive needing his wife to ferry him everywhere including weekly physio and rehab appointments.
Robin Patey, Principal Partner in our Road Traffic Accidents department added: “Life today bears little resemblance to the happy retirement that he was enjoying before he was thrown from his bike.
“Any compensation will help pay for rehab and medical support for Alwyn now and in the coming years.”
