More about Susan Hargreaves
Susan Hargreaves is a Partner and specialist Personal Injury Solicitor with over 30 years of legal experience. Qualifying in 1995, Susan has dedicated her career to fighting for individuals who have sustained life changing injuries. Her legal knowledge combined with her empathetic nature make her an individual who will look after the needs of the injured client, making them feel confident and heard whilst they pursue their claim.
Susan wanted to be a Solicitor in personal injury from a young age as both her father and mother were involved in significant life changing accidents.” I have always wanted to help people as best that I can deal with the problems they face after an accident. I am at the end of the phone to help please ring if you need me”.
Extensive Practice and Strategic Leadership
Susan offers a blend of entrepreneurial and technical legal expertise. For nearly two decades, she provided key leadership for a niche, specialist personal injury firm as a Partner until 2017.
Following the closure of her firm, Susan has spent the past eight years practising as a Consultant Solicitor in various practices.
Specialism in Complex and Catastrophic Injuries
Susan specialises in high-value, catastrophic personal injury claims, where liability is contested and the medical evidence is highly technical. She understands that a successful settlement must account for a lifetime of care, prosthetic requirements, accommodation adjustments, and lost earnings.
Her primary areas of focus include:
- Amputation Claims: Handling traumatic loss of limbs resulting from workplace accidents and severe road traffic collisions.
- Traumatic Brain Injuries: Representing adults who have sustained cognitive and neurological deficits, collaborating closely with case managers, neuropsychologists, and occupational therapists.
- Severe Psychiatric Injuries: Managing primary and secondary trauma claims involving profound PTSD, major depressive disorders, and chronic psychological disability following a catastrophic event.
Career
Throughout her career, Susan has navigated milestone legal battles. Evidenced by her involvement in the landmark case Edwards v Hugh James Ford Simey [2019] UKSC 54 at the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. Acting on behalf of the estate of the late Arthur Watkins, this high-profile litigation centred on professional negligence within underlying personal injury schemes.
Susan has acted on behalf of clients who have obtained multi-million-pound settlements. She obtains early interim payments to cover immediate rehabilitation (where appropriate), private medical treatment, and home adaptations, ensuring her clients receive the highest standard of support long before final settlement.
Qualifications
Susan holds an LLB (Hons) Degree and a Master’s Degree in European Public Administration and Management (EMPA) where she undertook a placement in Brussels as part of the course
