More about David Dunne

David is a barrister and partner in the Express Chambers specialist advocacy team. He specialises in personal injury and complex civil litigation. Called to the Bar in 2005, David has almost two decades of experience representing clients in a wide range of civil and personal injury cases.

David has acted in cases ranging from straightforward claims to complex and high-value litigation, including road traffic accidents, accidents at work, public liability claims, occupiers’ liability claims, fatal accident claims and inquests. He has particular experience in cases involving serious injury, disputed liability, complex factual or expert evidence, credit hire and difficult issues of causation or credibility.

Before joining Express Solicitors, David practised from chambers in Liverpool and later as a sole practitioner with a litigation extension. This allowed him not only to advise and appear as an advocate, but also to manage the whole litigation process for his clients from the earliest stages of a case through to resolution. That experience gave him a detailed understanding of how to prepare cases thoroughly, identify the evidence needed, deal with expert evidence, negotiate effectively and present cases at court.

David’s background as both an advocate and a litigator means that he approaches each case strategically from the outset. He is used to identifying the central issues quickly, assessing risk, anticipating the arguments likely to be advanced by the other side, and preparing cases in a way that is focused, robust and trial-ready. He has appeared in courts at all levels, including the Court of Appeal, and brings calm, clear and persuasive advocacy to the cases in which he is involved.

Having acted for both claimants and defendants during his career, David understands how cases are likely to be analysed and challenged by the opposing side. He uses that insight to strengthen his clients’ cases, identify evidential gaps early and ensure that claims are prepared as effectively as possible.

During his time in chambers in Liverpool, David was also instructed by solicitors’ firms in disputes involving the firms themselves, reflecting the trust placed in his judgment, preparation and advocacy.

David also has experience in fatal accident and inquest work. In one notable case, he represented the driver of a coach following a head-on collision that tragically resulted in multiple fatalities. His combined civil and criminal experience was particularly valuable because he was instructed in relation to both the potential criminal and civil consequences arising from the same incident.

David has a strong interest in cases requiring careful analysis of expert evidence, including professional and clinical negligence matters. He is particularly interested in presenting complex evidence clearly and persuasively, so that clients, opponents and the court can understand the issues that truly matter.

During a sabbatical from the law, David worked in education and obtained a Master’s degree in Leadership in Learning. That experience has strengthened his ability to explain difficult issues clearly, work collaboratively and support clients through what can often be a stressful and unfamiliar legal process.

David is committed to achieving the best possible outcome for his clients. He understands that serious injury claims are not just legal disputes. They often arise at a time when clients are dealing with pain, uncertainty, financial pressure and major changes to their daily lives. David’s aim is to give clients confidence that their case is being handled with care, judgment and attention to detail. His approach is practical and client-focused: he works to give clear advice, prepare cases thoroughly and make sure clients understand the key decisions being made along the way.

Away from work, David enjoys spending time with his family and taking any opportunity to be outdoors and amongst nature.
