Steven Matthias is a Senior Associate at Express Solicitors and has been with the firm since 2025. He is a member of the Civil Liberties team specialising in all aspect of litigation against the police including false imprisonment, assault and battery, personal injury, misfeasance in public officer, trespass to property, data breach and malicious prosecution.
Steven graduated from university with a BA in Politics Philosophy and Economics before completing his law conversion course and going on to qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive.
Steven initially specialised in personal injury law representing clients with significant and complex injuries before opting to pursue a new direction in law and specialising in police law.
Steven states that he has always had a keen sense of justice and seeking it out for those who through circumstance, may not always be able to achieve it for themselves. Steven recognises that whilst the police do a very difficult job, in often very demanding circumstances, as an apparatus of the state, it is necessary in a democracy that there be checks and balances and remains dedicated to providing these.
Steven has had significant successes both at trial and pre-litigation against multiple police forces when pursuing the right outcome for his clients.
In his spare time he is a keen sportsman regularly playing both football and badminton and is a supporter of Everton FC
