Beverley Patterson contracted salmonella after eating a sandwich containing One Stop chicken slices. She suffered uncontrollable bouts of sickness and diarrhoea, and she went on to be diagnosed with post-infective IBS.

Working with Express Solicitors, Beverley took legal action against the chicken manufacturers, food giant Cranswick Country Foods (owned by supermarket giant Tesco) and won £38,000 in an out of court settlement.

Beverley said: “I never thought a One Stop chicken slice could ruin my life. It robbed me of all the joy and turned my world upside down.

“I feel trapped sometimes. It is a horrible feeling as you never know when it is going to come on and catch you out.”

Siobhan Campbell, Partner in the Occupiers’ and Public Liability department said: “A simple trip to the corner shop to buy a packet of chicken and make a sandwich destroyed Beverley’s health.

“She decided to take a stand and took on food giant Cranswick and won. Now others who have been similarly injured from any shop bought chicken may have a valid claim.”
