In February we celebrated Race Equality Week, a UK-wide movement dedicated to addressing and dismantling the barriers that still exist in the workplace. This year’s theme, #ChangeNeedsAllofUs, serves as a vital reminder that achieving genuine, lasting equality is not the job of a few, but a collective responsibility for everyone in the professional community.

To engage with this mission, we held a roundtable discussion led by Kris Mohindra and Raana Lowery. The session provided a safe and open space for colleagues to listen, learn and reflect on how we can continue to build a more inclusive environment.

The discussion focused on real-world experiences and practical steps toward progress:

  • Lived Experiences: We heard directly from BAME colleagues about their professional journeys, the challenges they have faced and the successes they have achieved.

  • Strengthening Allyship: A significant part of the conversation was dedicated to how non-BAME individuals can become more effective allies. This involves active listening, speaking up against bias and proactively seeking to understand different perspectives.

  • Collective Action: Reaffirming that while individual actions matter, it is our shared commitment to EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) that creates systemic change.

At Express, we believe that a diverse workforce makes us stronger, more empathetic and better equipped to serve our clients. Conversations like the one led by Kris and Raana are essential for identifying where we can do better and ensuring that every member of our team feels valued and heard.

Equality is an ongoing journey, and as this week’s hashtag suggests, real change truly does need all of us.
