What happened?
Martin worked as a delivery driver, transporting furniture and meeting teams who would normally handle unloading.
He was later asked to carry out heavy lifting himself without support. Over several months, he repeatedly moved large volumes of furniture, including 117 mattresses on one job.
The strain caused worsening back pain, which was made worse by continued manual handling. Eventually, during a job, his condition deteriorated to the point where he couldn’t walk or complete his duties and delayed treatment then cause cauda equina syndrome.
