Investing in training and development is a key part of how we support our people and deliver the highest standards for our clients.
As part of that commitment, we regularly invite leading figures from across the legal profession to share their expertise and insights with our teams. Most recently, we welcomed Nick Bacon KC, one of the most respected barristers in the field of costs litigation.
Nick is described in the Legal 500 as having “probably the biggest costs practice at the Bar” and by Chambers and Partners as being “top of the tree in his field”. Throughout his career, he has been involved in some of the country’s most significant litigation, including the Mazur appeal, diesel emissions claims and the Grenfell Tower litigation. During the session, he explored the Court of Appeal’s decision in Mazur, highlighting its importance in confirming that while litigation tasks can be delegated across legal teams, responsibility and effective supervision must always remain with authorised lawyers.
For our lawyers, hearing directly from someone with such extensive experience in high-value and complex litigation is an invaluable opportunity. Sessions like these allow our teams to gain insight into developments across the legal sector, strengthen their technical knowledge and learn from experts operating at the very highest level of the profession. Nick also shared practical perspectives on the growing use of AI in legal practice, reinforcing that while technology can support efficiency, professional obligations, accountability and careful verification remain essential.
Creating opportunities for continuous learning is an important part of our culture at Express Solicitors. Whether through external speakers, internal mentoring or professional development programmes, we are committed to helping our people grow, develop and excel in their careers.
