At Express Solicitors we have a strong commitment to training. We place a great focus on supporting our trainees and helping them progress throughout every step of their career development.
We strongly believe that every trainee is a prospective Partner, demonstrated by the fact that many of our current Partners completed their training contract here, and this is the same for our Senior Associates.
New Client Team (NCT)
When you first join Express Solicitors as a Litigation Assistant in the New Client Team (NCT) you will undergo a 3 week intensive training course. Technical training will be provided by our current fee earners and any soft skills will be taught to you by our on-site training officer. Further procedural training will be given in-team, so that you will soon become well acquainted with the systems in place at our firm.
Working in NCT, you will learn the initial skills required of personal injury solicitors, including managing client expectations, the personal injury process, time recording and managing a case from start to finish. This stage gives you the opportunity to ensure that a career in personal injury is right for you and allows us to assess whether you have the necessary key skills.
Whilst in this department you will also have the chance to gain experience working across the full range of personal injury areas. These include: Road Traffic Accidents, Public Liability, Employers and Occupiers Liability, Defective Products, Clinical Negligence, and Catastrophic Injury.
After the initial period in NCT, the next step is working as a paralegal in a department, under the supervision of a Partner.
Working closely with senior fee earners, you will gain experience of dealing with more complex matters and will start to get involved in the litigation process.
From paralegal you will then be promoted to Litigation Executive, where you will have the opportunity to gain experience of fee earning and will have more autonomy over your own files. Working in one specific department you will run your case load from inception to completion.
As a fee earner you will have regular access to the Partners in charge of your department. They are always happy to help with any queries you may have. You will also attend weekly review with a Partner during which you will discuss your cases and raise any issues that you may have or need help with.
As well as regular training it may be pleasing to know that there is an ‘open-door’ policy at Express Solicitors whereby anyone can get advice and support on an ad hoc basis.
Litigation Assistants and Litigation Executives all receive quarterly performance appraisals to assist in their continuing development objectives.
