Dangerous Diabetes Drug Avandia Prompted Senate Investigation

Last week I blogged about the issues surrounding diabetes drug Avantia as featured in BBC’s Panorama documentary.

There has been growing concern since 2007 when the Senate Finance Committee launched an investigation into the safety of the drug and the conduct of manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline. This was prompted by research published in the New England Journal of Medicine which had linked use of the drug to a 43% increase in heart attack risk.
