Express Solicitors are sorry to hear about the case of a man who fell through the roof of an industrial unit in Stockport and died as a result of his injuries. Another man also fell through the roof in a separate incident and remains in hospital in a serious condition.
The men are believed to have fallen 25ft through the same site whilst they were working to demolish two empty units next to the DIY store Wickes on the industrial estate.
The HSE have confirmed a joint investigation with the police. A spokesman told the M.E.N.: “We are carrying out a joint investigation with Greater Manchester Police into two separate incidents at the same site in Heaton Norris where two workers fell through the roof of a former retail unit.”
Express Solicitors wants to remind those that work on roofs to remain safe.
It’s important to remember that falls can occur:
- from the edges of roofs
- through gaps or holes in roofs
- through fragile roof materials and roof lights
In addition, many people have been seriously injured by material falling or thrown from roofs. Also, accidents don’t just happen to those building roofs, but also to people maintaining, cleaning, demolishing and inspecting them. Any work on a roof is high risk since it involves work at height. High safety standards are essential however long or short term the work is. The nature of the precautions needed may vary from one job to another.
