Brain injured client thanks Express Solicitors for compensation and rehabilitation support

Express Solicitors receives high praise from client, Mr Padden, who suffered a brain injury at work and won compensation with help from solicitor and partner, Sharon Denby.

The accident circumstances were that Mr Padden was carrying out his duties at work as a waste disposal operative when a fellow employee, who was attempting to manoeuvre a nearby empty skip, with the use of an excavator,  drove the skip to collide with another stationary skip and into collision with Mr Padden’s head.  As a result he suffered a depressed skull fracture.

To make matters worse, Mr Padden didn’t receive the appropriate treatment at his local NHS hospital, which caused him to develop a life-threatening brain abscess that required surgery and left Mr Padden with brain damage.

As a result of the accident, Mr Padden was unable to return to work and he suffered severe hardship afterwards; the insurers representing his employers delayed in making interim payments until they were forced to and proceedings were complicated by his employers and the NHS authority, who argued whether the severity of the brain injury was caused by NHS negligence or the original accident.

The case was eventually settled by consent, with Mr Padden commenting afterwards: “I was very happy with the service I received from Express Solicitors.  My solicitor, Sharon Denby, saw me at my home to provide advice at the beginning of my claim; this put me at ease and I felt confident about pursuing my claim with the firm.

“Sharon would meet me face-to-face and was able to explain the more difficult parts of the claim to me in a very professional and understandable way. After meeting with her, I didn’t feel stressed about things such as the medical evidence, which was complex, or the evidence presented by the Defendant.

“I wasn’t overwhelmed by the Court proceedings either, as Sharon explained everything and I felt reassured I was in good hands.  It also helped that I didn’t feel pressurised into making any big decisions quickly and she provided all the information I needed to make up my mind in a clear and understandable way.

“I felt Express Solicitors and Sharon had my best interests at heart and were fighting my corner.”

Express Solicitors also secured a suitable case manager to look after Mr Padden’s rehabilitation needs. This involved a multidisciplinary team including a psychologist, occupational therapist and rehabilitation workers who helped him gradually take back control of his life.

The good news is that alongside winning the compensation he deserves, thanks to his rehabilitation, Mr Padden now enjoys working as volunteer at a local food bank and as a hospital porter.  He also receives continued practical support and advice from Sharon who acts as his trustee.
