Every year Express Solicitors organise a summer placement scheme for law students throughout the North West, to help fast-track them on their way into a legal working environment. The Express summer scholarship scheme is designed to allow students the opportunity to gain experience working in a legal environment and to assist in helping students demonstrate those skills necessary for a career in law mainly technical aptitude, personal skills and a dedicated attitude.
This year, Aisha Zahid was lucky enough to be offered a summer placement opportunity at Express after she impressed with her written cover letter and interview. Aisha has completed a Law degree at Manchester Metropolitan University and soon plans to undertake the LPC part-time whilst in employment.
When asked about her summer placement at Express, Aisha commented: “I have had a really enjoyable time at the firm; it is a really friendly atmosphere to work in and I’ve learnt a lot in my time here. I have gained invaluable experience and knowledge of the diverse types of claims that are handled within the firm which include: RTA, Clinical negligence, Public & Occupier’s Liability and Employers liability, as well as two additional schemes – the MIB and CICA.
“I have learnt a great deal about how a law firm operates in terms of how a claim process begins and ends. During my time at the firm I have worked with the administrative team to ensure that files are passed onto the correct department, completed information packs for NCT, and had an opportunity to use the Proclaim case management software. Additionally, I have shadowed employees working in NCT and feel I now have a good understanding of how Express Solicitors offer great customer service, draft letters, create packs, and retain clients.
“I have carried out a number of paralegal tasks and attended reviews to see how claims are accepted and created on live files. Moreover, shadowing fee earners and assisting them with their cases has been what I enjoyed the most as it was challenging since I was allocated tasks to review costs, medical reports and research case law.
“It was great to be given an opportunity to work in different departments and have such a structured timetable which really helped. I plan to undertake Part Time LPC at MMU and hope to gain a full time work opportunity at Express Solicitors. Thank you so much!”
