A number of us from Express Solicitors competed in the Bupa Great Manchester Run on Sunday. We’ll shortly be posting photos of all our entrants on the website shortly, but for starters here’s a shot of Partner Daniel Slade and myself after the event.
I can’t decide whether I look more exhausted than I felt when that photo was taken, or vice versa. Regardless, the 10km distance certainly was arduous and I think my legs are still trying to recover several days on. I’m sure those NASA space capes (tin foil sheets) are doing us some good though…
What definitely does help, when participating in a physical challenge like that, is the support of others. My wife and young son were holding the motivational sign in the photo and it was also a big help seeing the many thousands of well-wishes cheering and clapping us on from the pavements.
Another big spur was the generosity of friends, family and colleagues who made donations to my chosen charity Parkinson’s UK. To date, I’ve raised £650. Not bad for less than an hour’s work… 59 minutes and 38 seconds was my official time, and my how I sprinted to make post a sub-hour time!
I was running for Parkinson’s UK in memory of my grandma who sadly died of the disease some years ago. Every hour, someone in the UK is diagnosed with the disease. The charity supports people with Parkinson’s, their carers and their families.
They are also leading the way in pursuit of a cure, yet still totally reliant on donations. You can still sponsor me and help make a difference for people with Parkinson’s by donating at this link.
As I said, check back to the Express Solicitors website later in the week to see a full squad of proud runners with their medals. Well done to all those who competed.
