On the 11th April 2013, Express Solicitors were featured in the Bury Times in relation to the Avandia cases. The article was titled ‘Heart attack man takes legal action against chemical giant over pills allegation.’
The news story shed light on Darren Harper’s experience with the diabetes drug – Avandia. Darren Harper, a client of Express Solicitors, suffers from diabetes and was prescribed Avandia tablets to help treat his condition. Unfortunately, in 2011 Mr Harper was taken to Fairfield hospital in Bury having suffered from a heart attack. Mr Harper’s initial thoughts were that his heart attack was bought on by stress, however as he was recuperating he saw reports on TV about the controversy surrounding the Avandia drug.
Avandia has now been banned in Europe following a report showing that they increased the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Commenting on the Avandia cases in the Bury Times article, Express Partner Daniel Slade, commented: “In the US, GlaxoSmithKline fought legal action until the 11th hour before they settled. We anticipate a long process and our clients are prepared for a lengthy wait.”
Mr Slade currently has 43 Avandia cases on his books and has begun proceedings against GSK in four of them.
